Tandanya National Aboriginal Cultural Institute

Tandanya is the perfect place in Adelaide to explore the culture of the traditional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. Visit the various and diverse exhibitions in the art galleries, watch the didgeridoo (yidaki) being played or take in a dance performance and learn more about the history and culture of these fascinating people on a free guided cultural tour. Tandanya is the oldest Aboriginal managed and owned arts centre in Australia, and was founded in 1989. The name Tandanya means Red Kangaroo place in the Kaurna language. The building has been built on Kaurna land and Tandanya respects the culture and land of the Kaurna people. This non-profit organization is a terrific way to explore the cultures of the past and celebrate the Aboriginal future. Tours of Tandanya must be booked two week in advance and include the Ibis Tour, the Red Kangaroo Tour and the Emu Tour.
