Kings Domain, Melbourne

This beautiful park was created during an economic depression to provide work for the unemployed.  Enjoy a walk on the trails, play in the Australian sun, or enjoy a picnic in this large gem of nature right in Melbourne.  Kings Domain surrounds Government House Reserve, the Sidney Myer Music Bowl and the Shrine Reserve. It was established in 1854, covers 34 hectares and is part of a larger group of parklands known as the Domain Parklands.  Kings Domain features many structures and landmarks, such as:

- Government House - The official residence and office of the Governor of Victoria.
- Shrine of Remembrance - One of the largest war memorials in Australia.
- Sidney Myer Music Bowl - A world-class outdoor performance venue.
- La Trobe's Cottage - Historic building built in 1839 for Charles La Trobe, the first superintendent of the Port Phillip District of New South Wales.
- Pioneer Women's Garden - Opened in 1935 and designed by Hugh Linaker.
- South African War Memorial (Memorial to Fallen Soldiers) - For the Australians who died in the Boer War in South Africa (1899-1902), a central obelisk with lions on all four corners.
- The Walker Foundation - A small lake with hundreds of streams of water and underwater lights.
- The King George V Memorial - A memorial statue for the late King.
