Elder Park and the Adelaide Festival of Arts

Elder Park is located on the southern back of the River Torrens and is bordered by North Terrace and the Adelaide Festival Centre. The park received it's name in honour of the Elder family, early settler who developed the company Elder Smith. In 1882, the Elder Park Rotunda was built. There are many fun and interesting things for people visiting Elder Park to do, including renting bicycles, walking along the trails including the Torrens Linear Walk or riding on The Popeye boat. Elder Park also hosts the annual Festival of Arts, held annually in the autumn, it is Australia's largest multi-arts festival. It was first launched in 1960 and has grown to become a strong supporter of excellence and innovation in the Australian art world. The focus of the Adelaide Festival program is on the contemporary and features the best in theatre, dance, music, opera, cabaret, literature, outdoor entertainment, master classes, forums, the visual arts and more. Anyone visiting South Australia in the autumn would find more than enough to do at this exciting and diverse festival.
