The Art Gallery of South Australia, Adelaide

The Art Gallery of South Australia (AGSA) was founded in 1881 and is home to one of the greatest art collections in Australia. More than half a million visitors go through the Gallery each year.  The AGSA is home to more than 35,000 works of art and is world renowned for its collections of Indigenous Australian and colonial art and Japanese art.

A significant extenuation of the building was added in 1996 to house the display space for contemporary art without damaging or compromising the interior of the Victorian building.  The AGSA has both permanent and rotating exhibits, and you can get more out of your visit with a tour led by an expert guide, who will tell you all about the history, stories and incredible art on display. If you would prefer to do a self-guided tour, audio tours are available so that you can roam at your own pace.  Many events, such as cocktail parties or wedding receptions, are also held at the gallery.
